Biography

Dr. Michelle Birkenholz was born in Providence, Rhode Island and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating high school, she played collegiate soccer at The University of Tulsa in which she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2003. It was through life experiences that she developed a passion for medicine and attended medical school at Des Moines University where she received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008. Dr. Birkenholz completed her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in 2012. After many years of moving around the Midwest, she and her family decided to call Columbus home and she joined Columbus Metropolitan OBGYN in 2015. Currently she holds admitting privileges at OhioHealth (Grant Medical Center, Pickerington Methodist Hospital and Grove City Methodist Hospital) and Mount Carmel St. Anns.

Dr. Birkenholz has a passion for education which was instilled in her by her parents who are both involved in academia. She enjoys working with the residency programs to help guide future physicians. Most importantly, she has a particular interest in educating her patients about medical diagnoses and treatment options so that they may make the decision that is individually best for them. She has a particular interest in minimally invasive surgery, including Robotics; however, enjoys the variety that Obstetrics and general Gynecology provides. Her other practice interests include routine and high risk obstetrics, general gynecology, infertility, and menopausal medicine. Outside of her practice, she has a particular passion for quality and safety and is currently the Chief of Obstetrics for OhioHealth.

Dr. Birkenholz enjoys going to the soccer fields with her husband Reed and their two daughters, Avery and Adelaide.
